Our Committees

Adult Education
Works with clergy to develop adult programming and identifies potential Scholars for Scholar-in-Residence Weekends.

Budget and Finance
Creates and oversees annual budgets, reports quarterly to the Board of Directors, creates 5 & 10 year budgets.

Buildings and Grounds
Oversees the management of all aspects of CBI’s property holdings. Oversees the buildings, grounds, and equipment maintenance and updates. Studies and recommends upcoming restoration and campus projects as needed. Works with Social Action Council on sustainability issues.

Art & Interior
Subcommittee of Building & Grounds that works closely with Building & Grounds on interior and exterior design projects. Reviews and accepts/declines all donated art and Judaica for the CBI collection. Also reviews and approves the artwork, furnishings and Judaica for the CBI campus.

Kitchen
Ad-Hoc Committee within Building & Grounds that oversees the Catering Panel and makes recommendations as needed. Reviews catering and kitchen use policy.

Security
Subcommittee of Building and Grounds that oversees capital projects, security budget and security programming and processes.

Caring Community
Creates social and educational programming in coordination with other committees at CBI to reach elders in our congregation. Coordinates for families in crisis in need of meals, etc. (former Mitzvah Bank).

Cemetery
Oversees the maintenance (short term and long term) and operations of the Beth Israel Cemetery and Mausoleums as well as Cemetery Budget and other cemetery issues. Creates or revises cemetery policies as needed for Board approval.

Cultural Arts
Coordinates with the Adult Education, Membership and other CBI committees in providing cultural opportunities to our members.

Development
Every Family Initiative
Coordinates and implements the marketing and fundraising for CBI.

Annual Fundraiser
Subcommittee of Development that creates and organizes annual fundraiser.

Planned Giving
Subcommittee of Development that creates Planned Giving Campaign.

Dues
Reviews requests for Dues Adjustments and Dues Policies.

Education & Youth
Focuses on programs and activities that meet the educational needs of CBI with an emphasis on policy and curriculum. Develops strategic plan for expanding the preschool and religious school. Reviews current education policies. Oversees education department budgets.

Temple Parent Group
Subcommittee of Education & Youth that serves as liaison to families in Religious School. Plans fundraisers for school. Works with Education Director on Family Educational Programming.

Investment
Responsible to the Board of Trustees for selecting CBI’s Investment Advisor and monitoring the investment results. Oversees investments and reviews investment policy.

Library
Responsible for the acquisitions of all library materials; publicizes its holdings and oversees Library Tribute funds and management of the Library; coordinates all Library programming. Plans Jewish Book Month. Creates programming to increase awareness about the Library as a resource for the congregation.

Membership
Promotes and conserves congregational membership, welcomes new members and helps with membership programming. Oversees Chavurah Program.

Nominating/Leadership Development
Cultivates leadership within the congregation and recommends eligible congregants for leadership and board positions. Committee members appointed by the Board of Trustees.

Policy and Bylaws Ad-Hoc Review
Revises, edits and updates CBI’s Policies. Makes recommendations for revisions to the Board for implementation.

Strategic Planning
Creates long range vision for the congregation. Works with the Budget Committee to develop a 5 year budget forecast, with the Building & Grounds Committee to develop long term maintenance schedule/plan for needed capital reserves and with Education Department to look to expand preschool and religious school.

Social Action
Promotes social action through programming and volunteer opportunities, with a focus on education, advocacy, direct service and interfaith coalition building. Recommends lecturer for annual Daniel J. and Elizabeth O. Cohn Lecture. Reviews Religious Action Center initiatives and works with Rabbi Cahana to set priorities for CBI’s call to action.

Technology
Oversees computer systems, maintenance and software upgrades as needed. Oversees paid computer consultants.

Ushering
Trains and provides ushers for all religious services and CBI programming.
