News from the Amy R. Goldsmith and Spear Research Library

Your library has been acquiring a number of thoughtful, stimulating books. Here are just a few:

  • Following the publication in recent years of many books on women and the Torah, we are delighted to see The Modern Men's Torah Commentary: New Insights from Jewish Men on the 54 Weekly Torah Portions by Jeffrey K. Salkin

  • A topic you might not have known existed: Jewish Pirates of the Caribbean by Edward Kritzler

  • A topic to learn more about: BESA: Muslims Who Saved Jews in World War II, by Norman H. Gershman.

  • World War II and its aftermath: Hunting Eichmann: How a Band of Survivors and a Young Spy Agency Chased Down the World's Most Notorious Nazi by  Neal Bascomb; Safe Haven: Harry S. Truman and the Founding of Israel, by Allis Radosh and Ronald Radosh

  • For great entertainment: Entertaining America: Jews, Movies, and Broadcasting J. Hoberman & Jeffrey Shandler

Come in and Check Them Out!

Fans and followers of Jewish books and literature are thrilled with the new Jewish Review of Books, a “Jewish magazine of ideas and criticism” (from the editorial of the first issue, Spring, 2010.) In addition to reviews of new books, is an essay on siddurim in English (including Mishkan Teffilah) and “Why There is No Jewish Narnia” by Portland's own Micheal Weingrad.  Check it out: http://www.jewishreviewofbooks.com or stop by the library to review our copy.
