Passover 5786
Wednesday, April 1, 2026 - Wednesday, April 8
Spring brings Passover, and with it, an invitation to gather around the table and tell our oldest story. Our CBI community has prepared many ways to mark this journey from narrowness to freedom together.
In addition finding to the Afikomen, here at CBI you may also find connection at our annual Women’s Seder, lively storytelling and our Young Adult Seder, joyful song at our Religious School’s Musical Haggadah, the opportunity to serve others at our Community Seder for Jewish Family and Child Service’s clients, and reflection at our Passover Shabbat and Yizkor Services.
Please note that the CBI Main Office will be closed for Passover observance on Thursday, April 2 and Wednesday, April 8.
Over the course of the Passover holiday, please refrain from bringing chametz (leavened food, or items containing wheat, rye, barley, oats, or spelt) onto the CBI Campus
Dig In: a Musical Haggadah
Sunday, March 15
Artist-in-Residence and CBI’s talented Religious School Performers bring the Passover story to life with heartfelt performances and original compositions. During the Religious School day on Sunday, March 15, experience the Exodus story like you’ve never seen (or sung) it before.
Religious School Passover Fair
Sunday, March 15
Passover comes a little early to our Religious School due to Spring Break, but what a way to prepare! Our third through fifth graders will play Afikomen hide and seek, decorate matzah covers, go old school to clean out the last bit of chametz with a spoon, feather and candle, make Passover cards for clients of Jewish Family and Child Service, play four questions musical chairs… and throw matzah balls at eachother in the gaga pit!

Women’s Seder
Sunday, March 29
As Passover approaches, let’s gather for one of CBI’s most beloved pre-holiday traditions: our annual Women’s Seder. Open to members (and their guests) B’nei Mitzvah age or older who identify as female, our evening together weaves ritual, reflection, and connection—our invitation to you to pause and breathe before the holiday begins.
We’ll share a light Passover meal, celebrate with story and song, and step into the season energized by community, tradition, and the joy of being together.
$18; scholarships available
With deep appreciation to WRJ/Beth Israel Sisterhood for their support of this program.
Passover Kabbalat Shabbat Service
Friday, April 3
Join us in person or online for a Passover-themed Kabbalat Shabbat as we welcome Shabbat during the week of the festival with a service that steeped in the holiday themes of freedom, renewal, and memory.

Young Adult Seder
Saturday, April 5
Next year in Jerusalem… this year at our Young Adult Seder.
It’s the third night of Passover. You may be a bit tired of matzah. Dayenu is definitely stuck in your head on repeat. Yet this seder—designed specifically for Jews in their 20s and 30s—is different from all other seders: an opportunity for young adults across the Portland area and from all Jewish denominations to come together and observe this sacred tradition in ways both familiar and new.
CBI has partnered with Jewish Federation of Greater Portland, Congregation Neveh Shalom, Moishe Pod West, and Portland Jewish Connection to welcome you to our Passover table. We’ll enjoy a Kosher-style Passover meal and a musical, interactive Pesach experience led by Cantor Rayna Green as we linger and connect over story and song.
Join us on the CBI Campus (1972 NW Flanders Street). Whether you could lead the Four Questions in your sleep or are cracking open a Haggadah for the first time in years, there’s a seat for you at the table.
$18; this is a 21+, child-free event
Volunteer at the CBI/JFCS Community Seder
Tuesday, April 7
CBI and WRJ/Beth Israel Sisterhood host a seder for the invited clients of Jewish Family and Child Service.
For our guests, the seder will run from 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM.
Passover Yizkor Service
Wednesday, April 8
During the final day of Passover, we gather for Yizkor, a brief memorial service honoring loved ones who have passed away over the past year through prayer, reflection, and memory.
