From the Desert to the Promised Land: The Journey of Our People Then and Today—Shabbat Morning Services with Scholar-in-Residence Rabbi Meir Azari

Rabbi Meir Azari, Senior Rabbi of the Daniels Centers for Progressive Judaism, the largest Reform institution in Israel will be our scholar-in-residence on Saturday, March 21 at 10:30 am. Under Rabbi Azari’s leadership, the Daniel Centers have grown to include 4 congregations in the Tel Aviv / Jaffa area as well as Mishkenot Ruth Daniel, a guesthouse and seminar center in Jaffa.

Rabbi Azari has published three books, the first an in-depth look into Israel Independence Day, its customs and traditions, as they have evolved in Israeli society. The second is an edited collection of articles introducing Reform Judaism to Israelis and Hebrew readers. The third book, recently published in 2024, is entitled Lighting the Way: On Jewish Leadership. He has spoken at numerous congregations and conferences in North America and Europe.

Rabbi Azari’s work as including building bridges between the Jewish and Arab Israeli communities, especially through the “Shonim B’yachad” (Different Together) educational art program which engages schoolchildren in creating publicly exhibited artwork about acceptance and inclusion.

Rabbi Azari will help us understand the current situation in Israel and the world from the perspective of the Liberal Progressive (Reform) Jewish Movement in Israel.

NOTE: Because of the current situation in the region, Rabbi Azari is not able to be with us in person. We will engage with him live via Zoom during the Shabbat morning service. Details to follow.
