Lifecycle Events

Congregation Beth Israel is the center of celebration and remembrance for every important event in a Jewish person’s life.

Brit Milah or Bris

Our Rabbis and Cantor are happy to work with you to help you have a meaningful Brit Milah ceremony. We are happy to recommend and put you in contact with local mohels. Contact us at (503) 222-1069 for assistance.

Baby Naming

Naming and blessing a Jewish baby or child is their first welcome into Jewish life. The naming often takes place within the congregational community at Shabbat Services. We can help you connect with our Clergy and schedule this moving ceremony at (503) 222-1069.

B’nei Mitzvah

A Bar or Bat Mitzvah (around age 13) celebrates the child’s first reading from the Torah before the Congregation. We have a wonderful curriculum for our B’nei Mitzvah Students, which includes Hebrew, Jewish Studies and Tikkun Olam. More information on our B’nei Mitzvah program can be found here. We can answer any questions you may have at (503) 222-1069.

Weddings

Congregation Beth Israel offers several settings for weddings of all sizes. Ceremonies officiated by our clergy can be held in our historic Main Sanctuary, Pollin Chapel or Shemanski Chapel. Blumauer Auditorium and Goodman Hall provide two options for celebrations, from small intimate receptions to full-service dining and dancing receptions. If you are interested in speaking with one of our clergy about officiating your wedding or have other related questions, please contact us at (503) 222-1069 with any questions.

Beth Israel Cemetery

Congregation Beth Israel provides a beautifully maintained cemetery. The on-site Landau Chapel may be used for funeral services. Family plots may be purchased in a newly developed area of the cemetery. Ground burial is available as well as vault entombment and niches for urns in four mausoleums. Please contact us at (503) 222-1069 with any questions.

A memorial plaque is a beautiful and meaningful way to ensure your beloved departed are remembered in perpetuity. For information about memorial plaques in the Temple, please contact us at (503) 222-1069.
