PARTY (8th-12th Graders)

PARTY (8th-12th Graders)

“Portland Area Reform Temple Youth” (PARTY) is Congregation Beth Israel’s youth group for 8th-12 graders. Participation gives high school students (and 8th graders!) a chance to make friends with other Jewish teenagers! These connections are what keep our teens engaged and give them a safe space and foundation to lean on as they go through their formative teen years. The youth group sponsors programs ranging from social enrichment, worship, and social action events. All of our programs are peer lead by a group of self-selected high schoolers who plan and run our events. PARTY holds monthly events during and directly following Religious School and welcomes all teens.

Become a leader in PARTY! Leadership Council on the PARTY Board will work together to plan events for PARTY throughout the 2019-2020 year that will engage, teach and build community among teens at Congregation Beth Israel. Teens who participate in Leadership Council will develop: strong leadership skills, better time management, practice in public speaking and group leading, and experience in teamwork. Leadership Council is a strong and supportive community of teens who, through working and problem solving together, create an amazing experience for their Jewish peers. What is NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth)?

NFTY is the larger, reform North American youth movement, whose umbrella PARTY falls under. NFTY is a movement that builds strong, welcoming, inspired communities through teen-powered engagement. Together, NFTY pursues tikkun olam, personal growth, youth empowerment, and deep connections, all rooted in Reform Judaism. We participate in both regional and North American programming.

NFTY Northwest, our region, has 4 weekend retreats a year which take place around the Pacific Northwest. We travel as a group, usually via bus. Teens register to attend events on the NFTY NW website. Registration usually opens up a couple weeks before the event. NFTY NW is also part of the larger NFTY North American programming. Within this type of programming, we have the opportunity to travel to NFTY Convention every-other year. This is a 5 day convention where thousands of teens and youth educators meet. This upcoming year, the convention will be held in Dallas. There are always scholarships available, please contact me if you are interested!

PARTY is our local chapter of the North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY) and belongs to the NFTY Northwest Region. Through our connect to NFTY, we are able to not only connect with our local peers, but also travel to meet people on a regional, national, and even international level!
